Website Terms & Conditions of Sale

JJ's Bakes | Last updated August 2026

These terms apply when you use the JJ's Bakes website, buy from the online shop, purchase a gift card or order a bespoke cake. Please read them before placing an order. Nothing in these terms affects rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under consumer law.

1. About JJ's Bakes

JJ's Bakes is the trading name of Jade Jefferson, a sole trader.

Business address: JJ's Bakes Bakery, 5 Sowerby Road, Sowerby, YO7 1HR

Email: jjsbakes@outlook.com

Website: https://jjsbakes.co.uk

2. When these terms apply

These terms apply to consumer orders placed through our website and, where relevant, to orders agreed by email, telephone, WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook. If we agree specific written terms for a bespoke or large order, those specific terms take priority where they differ from this document.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract to place an order. If you order for somebody else, you are responsible for ensuring that the order information is accurate.

3. Products, menus and availability

Our products include cookies, brownies, blondies, other baked goods, bespoke buttercream cakes and gift cards. On selected Mondays, we may release a bake-week menu for collection later that same week. We do not release a menu every Monday. Products, flavours, sizes, stock levels and collection or dispatch dates are subject to availability.

Images and descriptions are provided to help you choose. Because products are handmade, reasonable variations in colour, decoration, finish, dimensions and appearance may occur. Screen settings can also affect how colours appear.

We may correct an obvious description or pricing error before accepting an order. If an accepted order is affected, we will contact you and offer the option to proceed on the corrected basis or receive a refund.

4. Placing an online-shop order

When you submit an order, you are offering to buy the selected products on these terms. An automated acknowledgement confirms that we have received the order; it does not necessarily mean that the order has been accepted.

A contract is formed when JJ's Bakes sends an order confirmation or otherwise confirms acceptance. We may decline or cancel an order before acceptance, including where an item is unavailable, information is incomplete, payment is not authorised, collection or delivery is unavailable, or we reasonably cannot fulfil dietary or design requirements. Any payment taken for a declined order will be refunded.

You are responsible for checking all names, ages, dates, quantities, flavours, delivery or collection details and other personalisation before submitting the order.

5. Prices and payment

Prices are shown in pounds sterling and will state whether any delivery charge applies. The total price payable is shown at checkout or in a bespoke quote before you commit to the order.

Online payments may be processed securely by Squarespace. Their own terms and privacy notices also apply. An order is not confirmed until the required payment has cleared.

If a payment is reversed, disputed or fails after acceptance, we may pause work, collection or delivery and contact you to arrange payment.

6. Bespoke cake enquiries and bookings

Submitting a bespoke cake enquiry does not reserve a date or create a contract. We will review availability, requirements and budget before providing a written quote or confirmation.

JJ's Bakes offers buttercream cakes. We do not offer fondant-covered, 3D or carved cakes. Inspiration photographs are used as a guide only; we will not make an exact copy of another baker's design. Final designs will reflect JJ's Bakes' style, available materials and the agreed brief.

For a bespoke cake priced at £40 or more, a £20 booking payment is required to secure the date. The £20 forms part of the total price. Bespoke cake orders priced below £40 must be paid in full when booked. A date is not secured until availability has been confirmed in writing and the required payment has cleared; the contract is formed at that point.

For orders where a balance remains, the balance must be paid on or before collection or delivery. We may withhold the order until cleared payment has been received.

Quotes remain valid for the period stated in the quote. If no period is stated, availability and price may change until the booking payment is received.

7. Changes requested by the customer

Tell us as soon as possible if you wish to change an order. We are not obliged to accept a change after the contract has formed, particularly once ingredients have been purchased, personalisation has begun or production has started.

If we can accept a change, it may affect the price, design, delivery or collection time. We will confirm any revised cost or arrangements before proceeding. Reducing an order does not automatically entitle you to a partial refund.

8. Customer cancellations

Most JJ's Bakes products are made to order, personalised or liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly. The statutory 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right for many distance contracts does not apply to goods made to a customer's specification or clearly personalised, or to goods liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly.

This does not affect your legal rights where goods are faulty, damaged, not as described or otherwise do not conform to the contract.

If you cancel a bespoke cake order, the £20 booking payment will normally be retained because we reserved production capacity for your date and carried out booking administration. Any amount retained will not exceed a reasonable estimate of the direct loss caused by the cancellation, taking account of costs saved and whether the date or products can reasonably be resold.

If you have paid more than the £20 booking payment, we will refund the balance after deducting any reasonable direct costs already incurred, including ingredients, materials or personalised items that cannot reasonably be reused or resold. If production has started, the amount retained may be higher, but it will not exceed our reasonable direct loss. We will not charge twice for the same loss.

To request a cancellation, email jjsbakes@outlook.com with your name and order number. We will explain whether cancellation is possible and any refund due under these terms and applicable law.

9. Cancellation or changes by JJ's Bakes

We may need to make a reasonable substitution or minor design change because of ingredient availability or circumstances outside our control. We will not make a material change without contacting you.

If JJ's Bakes cannot fulfil an accepted order, we will contact you promptly and offer a suitable alternative, a new date or a refund for the affected product. This is subject to the liability provisions below and does not limit rights that cannot be excluded.

10. Collection

Collection is from JJ's Bakes Bakery, 5 Sowerby Road, Sowerby, YO7 1HR. Bespoke cake collections are available by prior arrangement. For online-shop bake weeks, the advertised collection windows are normally Friday between 2pm and 3pm and Saturday between 9am and 10am. Any alternative must be agreed before the order is placed.

Bring your order confirmation or other reasonable proof of purchase. If somebody else is collecting, make sure they have the order details.

If you are late or cannot collect, contact us as soon as possible. Because baked goods are perishable, we cannot guarantee that an uncollected order can be stored or rearranged, and no refund is automatically due where the order was ready at the agreed time.

Once a cake or other product has been collected, you are responsible for transporting, handling and storing it in accordance with our instructions.

Collection of a bespoke cake must be arranged with JJ’s Bakes in advance. The courier or nominated person will be treated as collecting the cake on your behalf. Once the cake has been handed over in satisfactory condition, responsibility for its transport, handling, storage and safe arrival passes to you.

JJ’s Bakes will not be responsible for loss, delay or damage occurring after collection where this results from the actions of the courier, the nominated collector or unsuitable transport or storage conditions. This does not affect your statutory rights where the cake was faulty, damaged or not as described when it was handed over.

11. Storage, shelf life and serving

Follow the storage, shelf-life, transport and serving instructions supplied with the product. Shelf life varies by product and filling. JJ's Bakes is not responsible for deterioration caused by failure to follow those instructions, subject to your statutory rights.

Cakes should be carried level, secured in the vehicle and protected from heat, direct sunlight and sudden movement. Decorations, dowels, cake toppers or supports that are not edible should be removed before serving where instructed.

12. Allergens and dietary requirements

You must tell us about any allergy or dietary requirement before ordering and check the ingredient and allergen information supplied. JJ's Bakes handles all 14 regulated allergens within the bakery. Because of the risk of cross-contact, we cannot cater for diagnosed food allergies and cannot guarantee that any product is free from traces of an allergen.

We may sometimes agree an ingredient substitution for a dietary preference or other request. A substitution does not make the product suitable for somebody with an allergy. Please speak to Jade before placing an order if you have any dietary concerns. We will confirm whether the request can be accepted, but you should not proceed if the product would be unsafe for you or the intended recipient.

Ingredient and allergen information may change if suppliers or recipes change. Contact us before ordering if you need current information. Where an order is for other people, you are responsible for passing the supplied allergen information to them.

13. Problems with an order

Products must be of satisfactory quality, fit for their usual purpose and as described. If you believe an order is damaged, faulty, incorrect or not as described, contact jjsbakes@outlook.com as soon as reasonably possible with your order number, an explanation and photographs where helpful.

For damage visible on delivery or collection, contacting us within 24 hours helps us investigate while the product and packaging can still be checked. This request does not shorten or replace your statutory rights.

Do not discard the product or packaging until we have had a reasonable opportunity to assess the problem, unless it is unsafe to retain. Depending on the circumstances and your legal rights, the remedy may be a replacement, price reduction or refund.

A dislike of a flavour, a reasonable handmade variation or a difference from an inspiration image is not by itself evidence that a product is faulty.

14. Returns and refunds

For food-safety and perishability reasons, products cannot normally be returned simply because you have changed your mind. Do not post food back without first contacting us.

Approved refunds will be made to the original payment method unless otherwise agreed. Banks and payment providers may take additional time to process them.

15. Gift cards

Gift cards are valid for six months from the date of purchase. The expiry date should also appear on the gift card or associated purchase information. Gift cards may be used only with JJ's Bakes in accordance with the instructions supplied. They cannot be exchanged for cash, resold or used to buy another gift card, except where the law requires otherwise.

If the order total exceeds the gift-card balance, the difference must be paid using an accepted payment method. Treat a gift-card code like cash. Contact us promptly if it is lost, stolen or used without permission. Replacement is not guaranteed, although we will take reasonable steps where ownership and the remaining balance can be verified.

16. Website use and intellectual property

Website content, branding, recipes, photographs, copy and original cake designs belong to JJ's Bakes or are used with permission. You may view and share links for personal, non-commercial use, but you must not copy, sell, reproduce or exploit content without permission.

You must not misuse the website, introduce malicious code, attempt unauthorised access or use it unlawfully. Third-party links are provided for convenience; JJ's Bakes does not control third-party websites or services.

17. Customer photographs, reviews and inspiration images

If you upload an inspiration image, you confirm that you are entitled to share it for the purpose of discussing and producing your order. We will not use identifiable customer photographs or reviews in marketing without permission.

Any permission to feature a finished cake or customer-supplied content can be withdrawn for future use by emailing us, although this may not affect material already lawfully printed or published.

18. Our responsibility to you

JJ's Bakes is responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by a breach of these terms or a failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable when the contract was formed.

We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory rights relating to goods.

Products sold under these consumer terms are supplied for domestic and private use. We are not responsible for business losses such as loss of profit, revenue, opportunity or business interruption. Corporate or resale orders may be subject to separate written terms.

19. Events outside our reasonable control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, transport disruption, utility or internet failure, supplier failure, illness, epidemic, fire or government action. We will contact you as soon as reasonably possible and take reasonable steps to reduce the effect. If there is a substantial delay, you may have the right to end the contract and receive a refund for products not supplied.

20. Privacy

Our Privacy & Cookie Policy explains how we collect and use personal information, including order information, allergy or dietary information, customer accounts, enquiries and website analytics. It should be read alongside these terms and is available at jjsbakes.co.uk.

21. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when an order is accepted will normally apply to that order. Any change to an existing order must be agreed where required.

22. Other important terms

If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a right does not waive it. Only you and JJ's Bakes have rights under the contract, except that a person receiving a gift may rely on any consumer rights the law gives them.

We may transfer our rights and obligations only where this does not reduce your rights. You may transfer your rights only with our written agreement, except where the law allows otherwise.

23. Governing law and disputes

These terms and each contract are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts where consumer law permits.

Please contact us first so that we can try to resolve any complaint informally.
